This programme develops the knowledge needed to succeed in civil engineering, incorporating the necessary analytical, industrial, laboratory and Fieldwork skills. It offers good employment prospects in and out of Malaysia. Graduates may either choose to further their studies at degree level or seek employment as engineering supervisors working for contractors, architects or local authorities, or in the fields of construction, property management or consultancy. In line with the university's belief in cultivating practical knowledge, graduates are expected to participate in a range of group projects throughout the three year course.

Career Opportunities

Graduates from this programme may venture into careers such as Project Supervisor, Project Executive, Technical Officer, Technical Specialist, Technical Assistant, Draughtsman, Field Engineer, Construction Sales Executive, Assistant Engineer, etc.

Entry Requirement

  1. SPM / SPMV / O-Level / Equivalent: Pass with minimum 3 credits / grade-C including Mathematics and 1 relevant science / technical / vocational subject and pass in English; or
  2. UEC: Pass with minimum Grade B in any 3 subjects including Mathematics and 1 relevant science /technical/vocational subject and pass in English in SPM; or 
  3. Community College Certificate: Pass with Level 3 MQF in relevant field with minimum Grade C and credit in Mathematics in SPM; or
  4. STPM / A-Level: Pass with minimum Grade-C in any 1 subject with credit in Mathematics in SPM/equivalent; or
  5. STAM: Pass with Maqbul Grade with credit in Mathematics in SPM; or
  6. recognised certificate in Engineering/ Engineering Technology or its equivalent with minimum CGPA of 2.00; or
  7. recognised vocational and technology/skills certificate or its equivalent: Pass with Level 3 MQF CGPA 2.00 and with 1 year of relevant work experience or a minimum of 1 semester of a bridging programme.
  8. Other equivalent qualification recognised by the Malaysian Government

  9.  *(Candidates without credit in Mathematics in SPM/equivalent may be considered for admission into this programme if the certificate programme contains subjects that are equivalent to SPM Mathematics)


        International students must pass
    • IELTS minimum Band 5.0; or
    • TOEFL with a score of 500; or
    • Cambridge/Edexcel GCE A-Level; or
    • MUET Band 3

Program Educational Objective

To produce Civil Engineers/Technicians who are:


Capable to apply the adequate knowledge, skills, aptitude while utilising current Civil Engineering tools and techniques to meet job specifications and continue further studies.


Effective in appropriate communication skills to convey information, basic problems and solutions within social and ethical responsibilities.


Able to demonstrate fundamental skills for lifelong learning and career development in line with national education philosophy.

Program Learning Outcome

At the end of this program, students will be able to:


Apply knowledge of mathematics, natural sciences and Civil Engineering fundamental procedures and practices.


Identify, formulate research literature and analyse broadly defined Civil Engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences and engineering sciences.


Design Civil Engineering system with respect to operation and maintenance, including solving problems considering public health and safety, cultural, societal, and environmental aspects.


Conduct investigation of broadly defined problems using relevant data from codes, design principles, data bases and literature while conducting experiments to provide valid conclusions.


Apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools to predict and model the broadly defined Civil Engineering problems with an understanding of the limitations.


Apply reasoning informed by multi-contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to broadly defined Civil Engineering practice.


Demonstrate the impact of engineering solutions for sustainability in societal and environmental contexts based on new developments.


Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of engineering practice.


Perform effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams to achieve common goals.


Communicate effectively on broadly defined Civil Engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as to comprehend, write effective reports, design documentation and make effective presentations.
